Proactive Empowerment in the time of COVID-19

Staying strong in the time of COVID-19 will help you be the best you can be.  These are extra-ordinary times.  Many of us are feeling the weight of the world and the predicament we are in. Here are a few tips to keep in mind to stay healthy:

Keep a regular schedule

Having consistent sleep/wake cycles, meal times and exercise times all work together to help you balance and strengthen the systems in our bodies.

Tend to your nutrition

Veggies – 50% plus, healthy fats like avocados and olive oil, nuts and seeds, pasture raised or wild proteins sources (when you can) once or twice a day. Minimize sweets as best you can.

Intermittent fasting (aka overnight fasting) 12-16 hours without eating helps you detox and cleanses your brain and body. Choose an eating window (example – eat from 10 am to 6 pm) to allow your digestive system to rest.  Bonus:  your intestinal microbiome will love it!

Manage inflammation

Leaky gut, chronic infections, insomnia, food sensitivities, hormonal imbalances and excessive belly fat (central adiposity) are primary causes of inflammation.  Addressing some or all of these will help you feel better and resist illness.

Focus on lifestyle

Practice calmness.  Take time to relax.  Walking, Meditation, Yoga, Chi Gong, Tai Chi really do work to help us center and feel better.  Integrate calming practices into your day and once you get into the habit, you will look forward to this time away from every day stressors.

Chi Gong

“The more we seek opportunities for gratefulness, the more grateful we will feel, and the more habitual the gratitude response will be.  This time seems a very good time to engage in that well-known practice of expressing gratitude every morning and every evening for all those things for which you feel grateful. You’ll feel better in every way, and the world around you will too”.  By Connie Hernandez, ND
